EU Climate Law: new way to reach 2040 targets

The Commission has proposed an amendment to the EU Climate Law, setting a 2040 EU climate target of 90% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions, compared to 1990 levels. It will give certainty to investors and innovation, strengthen industrial leadership of EU businesses, and increase Europe's energy security (...) The EU is currently on track to meet its next target of a 55% reduction by 2030. The new proposal builds on this legally binding goal and sets out a more pragmatic and flexible way to reach the 2040 target.
