De Europese Commissie en de Europese Investeringsbank (hierna EIB) werken samen aan een investeringsplatform voor heel Europa. Dit platform brengt lokale en nationale, zowel publieke als private actoren samen om financiering te mobiliseren en dringende maatregelen te versnellen, ter ondersteuning van het aankomende Europese plan voor betaalbare huisvesting. The use of renewable energy sources in heating and cooling continues to increase in the EU, with the share of energy from renewables in those areas reaching 26.2% in 2023, the highest value since the time series started in 2004 (11.7%). The share increased by 1.2 percentage points (pp) compared with 2022 (25.0%). EU directive 2023/2413 of 18 October 2023 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources requires EU countries to increase their annual average share of renewables in heating and cooling by at least 0.8 pp from 2021 to 2025 and by at least 1.1 pp from 2026 to 2030. De Europese Commissie heeft de Clean Industrial Deal gepresenteerd, een ambitieus plan om de concurrentiekracht en veerkracht van de Europese industrie te ondersteunen. Online shopping in the EU continues to expand, according to the latest annual survey on ICT usage in households and by individuals. The Commission issued positive preliminary assessments of the Netherlands' payment request for €1.18 billion and Denmark's payment request for €128 million under NextGenerationEU, the centrepiece of Europe's recovery efforts to build a greener, more digital and competitive Union. Stedelijke verontreiniging blijft een grote bedreiging voor de gezondheid in de EU. Dit blijkt uit een vandaag door de Europese Rekenkamer (ERK) gepubliceerd verslag. Ondanks verbeteringen zijn de Europese steden nog steeds te lawaaierig en is ook de luchtverontreiniging onvoldoende afgenomen. De auditors vinden dit met name zorgwekkend nu de EU en haar lidstaten de komende jaren nog meer inspanningen moeten leveren om te voldoen aan de strengere normen.
